Die offizielle Auswahl für das 77. Filmfestival von Cannes, das in Frankreich stattfinden wird, wurde bekannt gegeben.  Bei dem Festival, bei dem die Regisseurin und Schauspielerin Greta Gerwig, die dieses Jahr mit dem Film Barbie lange Zeit im Gespräch war, den Juryvorsitz übernehmen wird, werden viele Meisterregisseure mit ihren neuesten Filmen antreten.

Zu den Regisseuren, die im Hauptwettbewerb des Festivals um die Goldene Palme konkurrieren werden, zählen neben Yorgos Lanthimos mit seinem Film "Kinds of Kindness", David Cronenberg mit "The Shrouds" und Francis Ford Coppola mit "Megalopolis" noch viele weitere Filmschaffende.
